We are so cruel. My friend has a new 12month old colt called Bertie and he has been gelded today and everyone is calling him Bertie Bollock off!
He was terrible tho. had to be done. He walks behind our cob mare on his hind legs trying to mount her. He is big enough to reach tho so its a bit worrying.
It all went well tho. He recovered well from the anaesthetic. Bless him.
I got to see the whole thing. it was gross but fascinating at the same time.
Ive held horses to be gelded before when i was working in racing yards but today is the first time ive been able to see it close up from the vets view. And he did it different from the way vets in south wales do it.
For the racehorses they kept them on thier feet and stitched em back up after. My friends vet got him to lay down and tiyed rope to his hind leg and lifted it out the way, made the incision and then cut and clamped them for a bit, took the clamp off and didnt stitch up. he said it reduces swelling that way. strange.
Anyone else seen it done before or no of different ways they do it?
